Though light Rail is extremely expensive and something Omaha residents wouldn't front the bill for, I still think it's worth mentioning my idea for what would be the backbone of Omahas transportation future. This route would initially run from the airport to the Crossroads area serving North Downtown/Riverfront, Union Station, The Old Market, Downtown Core, Joslyn area, Midtown Crossing/Turner Park, UNMC, Dundee and UNO in between. Eventually, the route would add a spur to Downtown Council Bluffs and North Omaha TC, and would extend westward to Indian Hills, Westroads, Old Mill, Village Pointe and Elkhorn. Just as Route 2 is the backbone of the Metro bus system, this light rail route would be the backbone of both the Metro bus and light rail systems. It would also have connections to and from commuter routes that connect to Lincoln and Fremont. Additionally, it would connect to many current transit centers as well as many future streetcar routes.

Just Imagine, instead of driving 20 minutes to the Airport or Downtown and spending extra time and also getting frustrated having to find and pay for parking, you could hop on Metro's Dodge Light Rail and be there in 20 to 30 minutes and be within a couple blocks of any major destination.
